Beautiful Red Interiors

I’m personally not a huge fan of red when it comes to interiors but it can be used to make a powerful statement in subtle and not so subtle ways. Check out how these designers who love red have incorporated this fiery and beautiful color into their homes.

There are instances, such as this Victorian farm house, where red is the perfect color.

primary-coloured-houses1.jpg…or sometimes you just want to have fun with it.

These walls are covered in Graniplast, a tinted acrylic finish. Nathan Pereira Arquitectos y Diseño advised on the facade, floors, and finishes. Designed by Vanessa Clark.

red bath.jpg

Red gives a bathroom and modern appeal. This bathroom features Chromtech tile, a Toto toilet, Kohler vanity, and powder-coated steel countertop.

red-nook

Red is perfect for a comfy kitchen nook. Eazy side chairs by Whiteonwhite line one side of the custom-designed table by LOT-EK. Castore suspension lights by Michele De Lucchi for Artemide hang above, and a custom rug by Liora Manné lies below.

red kitchen.jpg

Red is one of those colors where “less is more” often makes a bolder statement. Largely white monotone, the kitchen introduces a pop of red through the glossy AGC kitchen backsplash. Red Piston stools by Shin and Tomako Azumi complete the space.

red-modern

Red is often used in commercial spaces. In Situ Design and Lilian B Interiors adapted a six-story brownstone in midtown Manhattan into a boutique hotel with 33 guest suites. Each floor received what the designers call a “visceral” color treatment using Benjamin Moore paints, including Outrageous Orange.

red eames.jpg

I love this red Eames chair. Magenta Togo sofas by Ligne Roset, a red Eames molded plywood chair, provide seating around the hearth.

red locker.jpg

Red used as a fun, happy accent especially when it comes to kids. E27 pendant lamps from Muuto a with matching red locker storage. The inside of the front door is painted bright green.

red cabinets.jpg

Designer Harry Bates designed a simple cedar house for a young family in New York in 1967. Forty years later he updated the place for its new owners. The addition of bright red cabinetry in the kitchen introduces a contemporary style without losing the rustic, vintage quality of the space.

red leather.jpg

Red can be interpreted as masculine or feminine. I love this distressed red couch;
mixed with the industrial surroundings it adds a beautiful layer of texture.

red-bunk-bed

This bedroom features bright red bunk beds for a dormitory-like experience and can be
paired with adjoining rooms for larger groups of guests.

red-plaster

The kitchen’s red Venetian plaster walls makes for a nice textural detail.

Beautiful Studio

Some days I wish I could escape all that’s going on and retreat to place like this. Float Watershed is a small studio in the Willamette Valley, in Oregon. With a 100 square feet, it was designed to be a writing studio for a philosophy professor with a love for nature. She was the one who actively participated in the design, together with her daughter, the designer.

The view is spectacularly tranquil.

Float Watershed has many eco-friendly features. Firstly, the studio has small tunnels under it that can gather rare reptiles. There’s the water collection basin for birds and deer. Also, the owner wanted a roof that amplifies rain sounds.

The construction uses a steel frame, stainless steel bolts and cedar and glass enclosure layer. The entire studio is removable and recyclable. If there’s the need, the wooden elements can be recycled piece-by-piece. Also, the steel frame can be removed, reused or recycled, depending on the situation. Read more here.

Beautiful Pop-Up Shop Interiors

Reoccurring conceptual pop-up shops have become the latest and most innovative way to access up and coming ideas in design and fashion. By opening up home spaces to photoshoots, conceptual stores and events, a new trend in home design is emerging.

The Loft is a periodically recurring conceptual pop-up store. It beautifully expresses the eclectic nature of their values with our choice of products. I’m particularly fond of the natural materials like wood, steel, leather, glass, wool and ceramics. These materials tell a lot about the love and attention invested in a product. It shows its age and origin, its history, the way it was crafted. Learn more about the Loft studio here and swoon.

Beautiful Branding & Package Design

A great brand identity and packaging by studio Eskimo. Roasting Caffè Pagani was founded in 1949 from the dream and the passion of the founder Giorgio Pagani. Roasting is based in is managed by the second generation of the family. They call themselves craftsmen of good taste and the branding and packaging certainly reflect that. The new logo is a metaphor of circular movement of coffee during roasting. In general, the entire roasting process is based on circles, coffee beans always move in a circle. Two main characteristics (time and temperature) have round dials too. Everything is circular and everything rotates. Generation by generation Pagani offer you coffee mixtures of excellent quality. The result of the branding is simply elegant.

Beautiful Winery in Napa

Seems to good to be true — you stop for gas, and find an oasis of pinot instead.
Napa has a new hot-spot, is Tank Garage Winery— an old vintage service station
transformed into a super cool wine country destination. It’s the perfect casual
road stop to try some new wine, take in the scenery or snap a few good photos.
Not a huge fan of wine in general, I’m more a of craft cocktail gal, but I love
the name, branding and use of old materials.

Beautiful Historic Homes

I love architecture and when I’m out-and-about I sometimes find myself stalking the neighborhood to check the latest and greatest home designs. With the building frenzy going on in Seattle and so many structures being torn down and replaced at such a rapid pace, I’m developing a new appreciation for the beauty of old homes and buildings. I’m personally a fan of modern design with the less is more approach but my heart holds a special place for authentic craftsman style homes in Seattle, the colorful Victorian homes in SF and Row Houses in DC. It amazes me how much residential architecture can define a city. Put them in a different location and they almost look silly. Hopefully more will be preserved so that a cities don’t lose their historic identity. Enjoy these images, one day they may become just that, an image.

San Francisco Victorians

Row Houses of Washington, DC
Many of these are about 200 years older than the SF Victorians and 300 years older than the Seattle Craftsman Bungalows! Built long before western states even existed. Amazing they have survived.

Seattle Craftsman Bungalows
With the Seattle building boom, sadly many of these are disappearing and being torn down only to be replaced with what I consider poorly designed modern homes and condos. I am a huge fan of well designed modern homes however the surrounding neighborhood and homes always need to be taken into consideration.

Beautiful Hermès Reuse – Atelier Petit H

petith_portrait1

In an unassuming street in Pantin, the north-eastern Parisian suburb that has become something of an industrial hub for the luxury fashion industry, you’ll find the petit h workshop. Hidden off a leafy courtyard, the open-plan, well-lit room is a laboratory of sorts that houses the exceptional métiers of Hermès under the one roof. The mission here is to transform discarded items from the Maison’s many ateliers, and craft treasures from the odds, ends and off-cuts with the help of a roster of artists and designers like Christian Astuguevielle, Parme Marin, and Isabelle Leloup.

Beautiful Place To Stay In Barcelona, Spain

Casa Mimosa is a new hotel by the H10 hotel chain, designed by Tarruella Trenchs Studio. Located in Barcelona, the hotel design integrates original elements of the building by blending them with contemporary features. Muted colors and reclaimed elements such as coffered ceilings, moldings, trim and fireplaces create a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere, while the rooms have a beautiful mix of warm walnut wood, brass and velvet. Custom-made elements such as the headboard, desk and brass lamp sit alongside design pieces such as the Vitra Softshell Chair and Bai Di Di Suspension Lamp by Parachilina. What a dream it would be to stay here!

Beautiful Reading Nooks

Reading is one of my favorite past times however lately I’ve been doing most of it
on plane while traveling. During the year it’s usually reserved for bedtime but when
I do have the time I prefer one of these type of spaces. Though summer calls for
outdoor reading spaces, reading nooks are a must all year round in Seattle.
For tips on how to create a cosy space, check out this article These four
beautifully styled reading nooks feature warm, muted color palettes and serious
arm-chair inspiration.

Beautiful Restaurant Interiors

Another beautiful restaurant by Space Copenhagen, this time transforming a former industrial oil warehouse in the old Christianshavn quarter for Noma’s Rene Redzepi’s new restaurant, 108. Featuring tall sash windows and high ceilings, the striking interior combines raw concrete, exposed brick walls, dark burnished metals and weathered timber. All of the work done by Space Copenhagen is beautifully designed and executed.
