Beautiful Cabin in the Desert

Lucid Stead, by artist Phillip K. Smith III, is a
70-year-old homesteader shack’s weathered
and worn is transformed into a remarkable
vision that makes viewers question whether they
are hallucinating. The artistic, reconstructive
project adds an element of intrigue and
optical illusion through the addition of reflective
panels that echo the surrounding landscape.

Smith says, “Lucid Stead is about tapping into
the quiet and the pace of change of the desert.
When you slow down and align yourself with the
desert, the project begins to unfold before you.
It reveals that it is about light and shadow,
reflected light, projected light, and change.”

Beautiful 300 Year Old House Renovated

This home renovation in Tel Aviv is breath-taking.
This 300-plus year-old house is located in the ancient
port city of Jaffa, the oldest part of the Tel Aviv-Jaffa
municipality in Israel. The gorgeous renovation is by
the Tel Aviv-based Pitsou Kedem Architects
well-known for their minimalist approach to
architecture and design. The design maximizes
the sea view while keeping the historical feel of
the building intact. It feels like a sanctuary.
I love the gorgeous arches, the exposed texture
of the old stone, and the beautiful balance between
the old and the new, such poise. Seriously beautiful.

Beautiful Hotel Interior

I love the simplicity, eclectic and friendly character of this
renovated hotel in Alabama. So many boutique hotels
are over done and pretentious but not the Alabama Hotel.
Situated in the inner city, The Alabama Hotel has been
recently revived and re-opened after a near-decade
long hiatus. Its boutique budget status keeps a personal
creative feel without costing a year’s pay. Artwork on the
walls includes Tom O’Hearn, Aeden Howlett and Stu Dobell.

Beautiful Old Factory

Today I celebrate the Oreo cookie not because
I like the cookie so much but I do love design
and history. Today I did some internet stumbling
and came upon these great images of the design
of the old Oreo Cookie factory in New York.
Sometimes I do wish I lived closer to NYC
to experience some of this first hand but suffice
to say I’ll enjoy the ‘ol factory thanks to
the talents of PATTIBUM.

The first Oreo cookie was made in 1912 at
the original Nabisco bakery in NYC which
is today the Chelsea Market.
