Beautiful Pop-Up Coffee Shop

There are few things more important to us first thing in the morning than a morning espresso. It’s often the deciding factor in our daily disposition. Can’t think of a better place to get it than from this beautiful little pop-up cafe in Auckland.

Creatista Café is the brainchild of Nespresso. The space boasts Scandinavian-esque interior, there’s a sofa, lounge chairs and even a dining room table. It’s like sitting in your living room. Beautiful design, branding and product.

Beautiful November

Life has been a bit hectic lately so I’m channeling my new November attitude; simple and relaxed.

moodboard

November means ‘the ninth month’ so why is it actually the 11th month in the year? The calendar used in the Western world today is the Gregorian calendar. It came into being in 1582 when Pope Gregory XIII accepted the system proposed by Aloysius Lilius. The original Roman year (from which both the Julian and Gregorian calendars are based) had only ten months and it was Numa Pompilius, a King of Rome around 700 BC, who added January (Januarius) and February (Februarius).

Beautiful Hotel Interiors

Located in the heart of Venice Beach, California, The Parachute Hotel offers a new, one of kind destination. Dreamed up by local home essentials brand Parachute, it was designed by Scott Horne and Peter Dolkas, and has been stylishly curated with a cool California vibe.

Parachute bedding—a retailer of high-quality sheets evangelized by fashion and lifestyle bloggers—has transformed the loft above its Venice Beach store into a single 2,200 SF hotel room that functions more like an Airbnb. It has beautiful raw materials – wood and jute with a neutral, milky color palette inspired by the beach.

Catering for events, parties and private stays, Parachute features beautiful homewares, warm touches of rattan and statement artwork throughout, the hotel also has a ‘shoppable’ concept, meaning everything is available to buy.

Beautiful Scandinavian Design

I am so enamored by this this classic Scandinavian apartment belonging to designer Hanne Bloch featured on Bo Bedre. The mix of mid century furniture, rustic materials and design simplicity blends so beautifully together. The Serge Moille lighting fixtures, the classic white tufted mid-century modern lounger, the Eames dining chairs — all of it works perfectly together. And the dark stained hardwood floors work sets everything off perfectly!

Indigo-Slam-Smart-Design-Studio-Yellowtrace-02

Indigo Slam, designed by Smart Studio, was completed earlier this year and observing this extraordinary sculptural concrete building from the outside is evidence enough that something very special lies within. There are simply no words to describe the impact of this extraordinary house. There is a distinct calming sense that happens here as if entering a luxury spa, whereby you are instantly transported into a different world. The space compresses as a low and narrow corridor, before suddenly opening into a spectacular stair hall. Let’s just say it’s epicness of the central void – the soaring ceiling, the majestic staircase, the sheer scale of… well, everything really, balanced so beautifully with a highly restrained approach to materials and detailing with a monastic quality.

The Client’s brief called for something extraordinary – a piece of sculpture to be lived in. The team established a unique language of cutting, folding and stitching together for designing the building skin – something once flat becomes three dimensional and something once blank creates and enfolds space. This language is carried throughout each aspect of the design – from the concrete facades, to how the marble in the kitchen is sculpted and shaped, light switch or tap installed, to the planes and curves of the vaulted ceilings. The sculpted concrete facades of Indigo Slam are alive to the changes brought by light, shade, sun and cloud, providing the new urban park across the road with a lively backdrop to public life. The serene living spaces and monumental halls within create a dynamic spatial interplay of spare interiors in which the main decorative element is light.

The brief was for Indigo Slam to last 100 years. Materials are selected to wear and endure, with each fitting designed or selected to continue the language of overall design concept, occasionally adding a small element of surprise to the finely grained interior.

P.S. If you are so inclined, you can read a fantastic article titled ‘Designed From The Inside Out’: a conversation between William Smart and Heidi Dokulil, giving further insight into this fascinating project.

Beautiful Reupholstery Project

photo4
In a recent post
I gushed about my obsession with blue velvet and it just wasn’t going away so I decided to do something about it. Enter an old worn out but very comfortable chair that has been the favorite lounging spot for no less than 3 dogs along with numerous humanoids. Not one to let it go to waste, I decided to reupholster it in none other than a vintage blue velvet. Seattle has many wonderful places to shop but is very lackluster when it comes to fabric stores. Somebody please open a fabric warehouse, but I digress. This minor hitch gave me the perfect reason to visit MOOD in LA and lucky me I got there 15 minutes before they closed knowing exactly what I was looking for. Not realizing how huge it was I could have spent an entire day perusing the place if it weren’t for my single-mined journey to find the perfect blue velvet; albeit an affordable one.

photo1

These images are before photos. A couple of things I discovered about the reupholstery business is; as a profession they are in decline but the flip side to that is the ones who are still in it have a long backlog of work to do and it’s not something you can “speed up”. My chair is at least 8-10 out before I can post after photos unless I get lucky and find someone who can do it sooner than later. I am so excited to see the end result.

Beautiful Blueberries

5

I love random excursions such as the Larsen Lake Blueberry Farm in Bellevue, WA of all places. A beautiful “off the side of the road” U Pick oasis in a residential neighborhood for blueberry lovers and for those, who like myself, love to meander every now and again.

I really wanted to sit on this swing all afternoon and meditate. Love the old pine wood.

Fields of blueberries where you can pick your own for hours on end but if
you are lazy like me you can purchase them onsite.

to know here is a list.

Misty
O’Neal
Sharpblue
Sunshine Blue

And speaking of blue, I am currently in LOVE with blue and in fact will be covering an old
chair in blue velvet. Here is some inspiration.

Beautiful Dream Life

Design bloggers Brooke and Steve Gianetti, (Velvet & Linen) have written a beautiful book about the process of building their marvelous home in Ojai, California called Patina Farm.  And now it’s in a book with beautiful photos of a place I would call utopia living.  It’s the stuff that dreams are made of, of a beautiful alternate life adorned with vintage French wood doors, charming chicken coops, dreamy landscapes, glass walled showers and baby goats.  I would love to visit this place.
