Beautiful Architecture

This concert hall makes me want to pay a visit to
Mexico. Inspired by the movement of a conductor’s
baton, Broissin Architects designed the beautiful
Roberto Cantoral Cultural Center in Mexico.
The design is composed of five concrete roofs moving
up and down in harmony to give shape, space and light
to the project. Each roof represents a musical staff´s line,
always straight, constant and parallel.  The project
is sited in a forest area with huge and old trees.

The lines composing the façade move up and down as
branches move in the wind, letting the sunlight pass
through, creating a fantastical parade of shadows.
The building wraps you, its shape turns into the
shape of music. It is not a whim or about fashion, it is just
about the sound of music traveling around every space,
every seat, every corner, giving shape to every dream,
to every song. Outside, the white concrete façade
represents the purity and originality of Mexican music;
inside, the red concert hall represents the Mexican
composers’ passion. Beautiful.

Beautiful Lighting Design

This Symphony Lamp chandelier designed by
Anna Strupinskaya is stunning. The concept of the
chandelier explores the connection between light and
sound waves and their resemblance. Light, color and
sound are visualized in three interlaced spatial ribbons.
The ribbons of translucent silicone imitate rows of
tubes that contribute to the perception of the musical
instruments theme. Love the translucency and
beautiful color overlaying effects.

Beautiful Architecture

Asymptote’s proposal of the Guggenheim in Guadalajara
competition imagined the museum as an undulating
mass rising from four sculptural corner volumes,
with a central atrium acting as an “urban balcony.”
While they lost to Enrique Norten, their surprising
proposal has since been attracting attention and
acclaim. With a strong, iconic architectural expression
on a spectacular, clifftop site, the diaphanous specter
seemingly hovers like a spaceship. It is touted by the
architects as a space that performs simultaneously as
a “dramatic viewing platform, a gateway, a gathering
place, an urban theater and an outdoor exhibition space.”

Beautiful Festival of Lights

I just added the Lyon Festival of Lights
to my bucket list of places I want visit.
The Festival of Lights in Lyon, France
(or Fête des Lumières) ignites a dazzling
light displays by artists from around the world.
By the end of it, between three and four million
visitors (I wish I was one of them) are expected
to have walked around the French city to see
the highly impressive light installations, which
this year include 80 works by 120 designers.
Impressive and beautiful.

Beautiful Cabin in the Desert

Lucid Stead, by artist Phillip K. Smith III, is a
70-year-old homesteader shack’s weathered
and worn is transformed into a remarkable
vision that makes viewers question whether they
are hallucinating. The artistic, reconstructive
project adds an element of intrigue and
optical illusion through the addition of reflective
panels that echo the surrounding landscape.

Smith says, “Lucid Stead is about tapping into
the quiet and the pace of change of the desert.
When you slow down and align yourself with the
desert, the project begins to unfold before you.
It reveals that it is about light and shadow,
reflected light, projected light, and change.”

Beautiful Bauhaus

Bunk with Breuer and the gang. The Bauhaus Dessau is now open to the public,
a modernist dream. For $47 a night, you can snooze in the same rooms that were
shared by Joseph Albers and architects Franz Ehrlich and Alfred Arndt.
Sweet dreams indeed. Sleep like a Bauhasler.
