Beautiful Architecture
I stumbled upon this very interesting site about
material systems and fabrication. Very intrigued.

Beautiful Bauhaus
Bunk with Breuer and the gang. The Bauhaus Dessau is now open to the public,
a modernist dream. For $47 a night, you can snooze in the same rooms that were
shared by Joseph Albers and architects Franz Ehrlich and Alfred Arndt.
Sweet dreams indeed. Sleep like a Bauhasler.

Beautiful Architecture
During one of my random walks recently I stumbled
upon a gem at 777 Thomas Street. It’s a great example
of an Art Deco style building designed by
George Wellington Stoddard in 1931, a notable and
prolific Seattle architect whose buildings are scattered
throughout Seattle.

But little did I know, this gem is at the center of an
interesting controversy that surrounds the future of
the building. When I got home I was curious and
researched the building to learn more about it and was
surprised to learn that it’s “fighting for its life” and seeking
to be preserved as a landmark. Currently the developer is
suing the city in what sounds like a battle over development.
It will be interesting to follow and see what happens.
With all the new development around the South Lake Union area
I think would be nice to save it…what do other people think?

Beautiful Machine
Amazing machine.
Beautiful Chicago
Chicago has some of the best art and architecture.
Dare I say Chicago has better architecture
than NYC in some ways. The modern movement is
more prominent and nobody did it better than FLW.
Beautiful Architecture
Curious about this Children’s Healthcare Center, at first I thought
it resembled a carnival too much but upon further reading
I think it’s the perfect solution. Playful animals are imbedded
in the building. Aptly named Giraffe Childcare Center designed
by Hondelatte Laporte Architecte. Read more about it here.

Beautiful Renovated Castle
This redeemed castle is stunning, I could live here.
Creativity, renovation and conservation at its absolute
best. Beautifully detailed and crafted.
Kudos to architectural firm Witherford Watson Mann
for winning the 2013 RIBA Stirling Prize, an annual award
recognizing the best in British architecture, for their
refurbishment of the 12th Century Astley Castle
in Warwickshire, England.
The medieval walls remain standing, gashes and all.
The renewed detailed construction of brick, concrete
and wood sits entirely within the ancient footprint,
visually enriched by the Castle’s imperfect remains.
As the architects explain, “The house is animated by
slashes of sunlight on stone walls and views over the
ancient landscape. At the dining table, you look out
from twelfth and twenty-first century construction
to fifteenth and seventeenth century walls –
the dialogue across the centuries frames
conversations between friends.”
A deserved recognition indeed.
Beautiful Board Game Cafe
Triopton Architects have designed the wonderfully creative
Alaloum Board Game Cafe located near Athens, Greece.
You can watch a video walk-through of the cafe – here.
Looks like fun to me. Love the Chutes and Ladders wall.
