Beautiful Scandinavian Design

I am so enamored by this this classic Scandinavian apartment belonging to designer Hanne Bloch featured on Bo Bedre. The mix of mid century furniture, rustic materials and design simplicity blends so beautifully together. The Serge Moille lighting fixtures, the classic white tufted mid-century modern lounger, the Eames dining chairs — all of it works perfectly together. And the dark stained hardwood floors work sets everything off perfectly!

Beautiful Mid-Century Modern Home

House stalking…and dreaming

House stalking is like a past time for me lately. Honestly, when I drive by a house I like I think about whether I could live in it and what it’s like inside, but it just seems so far out of reach these days, especially in the heart of Seattle. Property here is ridiculous if you’re wanting to live anywhere within the city limits. Sometimes I feel like I can barely afford life, let alone buying a home in the kind of up and coming area I’d want to be in.

One style I’m currently obsessed with is all things mid-century, I love the clean lines, modern style furniture, large widows and vaulted beamed ceilings. The problem being there are not too many good mid-century style homes in Seattle where bungalows rule. Palm Springs has the best examples, now if only I could find a way to plunk an Eichler home somewhere in Seattle, hmm.

This beauty is the Dr. Scholl’s estate in Palm Springs, CA, the epicenter for mid-century modern, is designed by Anshen+Allen. The entrance has an amazing colonnade and oversize atrium that leads straight into a round pool from the moment you step in the door. I love the front facade with minimal window lines, the privacy, the custom walnut Kerf cabinetry in the kitchen, vintage tiles and hand crafted walnut accent walls….mid-century doesn’t get any better than this. Now if only I had a spare $1.2 million and could tolerate the heat of Palm Springs.

Beautiful Dream Life

Design bloggers Brooke and Steve Gianetti, (Velvet & Linen) have written a beautiful book about the process of building their marvelous home in Ojai, California called Patina Farm.  And now it’s in a book with beautiful photos of a place I would call utopia living.  It’s the stuff that dreams are made of, of a beautiful alternate life adorned with vintage French wood doors, charming chicken coops, dreamy landscapes, glass walled showers and baby goats.  I would love to visit this place.

Beautiful Treehouses

If I could choose my dream home it would be
a treehouse and any one of these would suit me
just fine. Love the childlike appeal.

Bower House Construction takes a sophisticated,
nature first approach to his custom treehouses.
Founded by Simon Parfett, a former climate scientist
who wanted to do more work with his hands,
Bower House Construction designs and builds
custom treehouses in Bruton, a rural town
near Somerset, England. Parfett’s bespoke
structures speak to a love of craft and nature.

Beautiful Bungalow

This beautiful Bungalow house designed by architect
Athelstan Whaley as a part Edgcumbe Park resort was
for years owned by a David Weston & Scott Mycock
and used as a home and studio.  The house has been
nicely renovated and its design is spot on – classical
modernist posters, iconic mid century modern furniture
like Eames Lounge chair, Noguchi Butterfly stool,
Jacobsen Egg chair  and many others are present.
Interesting fact is that it was also used as a location
for the 1966 film Fahrenheit 451.

Beautiful Hollywood Cabin

Mad Men‘s Vincent Kartheiser used to live in
a small one-room bungalow on a nondescript
Hollywood street”. But he had big plans for the little
580 SF house. Evoking a Japanese industrial feel,
it has a beautiful giant boulder sink. Local studio
Funn Roberts designed the space with a suspended
bed that drops from ceiling and a headboard made of
a huge slab of redwood fastened to the wall on hinges
so that, when the bed is raised, the piece of wood can
flip down to double as a desk.  Love the cleverly
designed bed; it works on a pulley-system
with a 300-pound counterweight hidden in the closet.

Beautiful Cabin in the Desert

Lucid Stead, by artist Phillip K. Smith III, is a
70-year-old homesteader shack’s weathered
and worn is transformed into a remarkable
vision that makes viewers question whether they
are hallucinating. The artistic, reconstructive
project adds an element of intrigue and
optical illusion through the addition of reflective
panels that echo the surrounding landscape.

Smith says, “Lucid Stead is about tapping into
the quiet and the pace of change of the desert.
When you slow down and align yourself with the
desert, the project begins to unfold before you.
It reveals that it is about light and shadow,
reflected light, projected light, and change.”

Beautiful 300 Year Old House Renovated

This home renovation in Tel Aviv is breath-taking.
This 300-plus year-old house is located in the ancient
port city of Jaffa, the oldest part of the Tel Aviv-Jaffa
municipality in Israel. The gorgeous renovation is by
the Tel Aviv-based Pitsou Kedem Architects
well-known for their minimalist approach to
architecture and design. The design maximizes
the sea view while keeping the historical feel of
the building intact. It feels like a sanctuary.
I love the gorgeous arches, the exposed texture
of the old stone, and the beautiful balance between
the old and the new, such poise. Seriously beautiful.
