Beautiful New York City Circa 1980s
Steven Siegel has been photographing the streets and subways
of New York City for 30 years, and his Flickr album is a time
capsule of a grittier, feral city — before Times Square was
scrubbed clean and 9/11 changed the metropolis forever.
His photos are remarkable. Siegel and friends created several
dreamlike scenarios (in a pre-Photoshop era) with clever
angles, poses, and accidental exposures. Take a closer look

in the 1980s.

Beautiful Wedding in Portland, Oregon
I just spent four wonderful days celebrating
a wedding with family in Portland, Oregon
and I must say I adore Portland. This weekend
was all about the most beautiful wedding I’ve
ever attended along with some deserved
mentions! Simple, modern, and about as
personable as any occasion can be.
Congrats to the bride and groom and family.
The special occasion started out with a dinner
at the beautiful family owned Apolloni Vineyards.
The people, food, weather and wine was superb
and the backdrop setting was perfect.
The beautiful weekend culminated in the
best wedding ever at The Colony at St. Johns.

Beautiful Poetry
The last days of summer are so fleeting, wistful of
long, warm sunny days that call upon a bit of poetry.
SUMMER’S ELEGY

Day after day, day after still day,
The summer has begun to pass away.
Starlings at twilight fly clustered and call,
And branches bend, and leaves begin to fall.
The meadow and the orchard grass are mown,
And the meadowlark’s house is cut down.
The little lantern bugs have doused their fires,
The swallows sit in rows along the wires.
Berry and grape appear among the flowers
Tangled against the wall in secret bowers,
And cricket now begins to hum the hours
Remaining to the passion’s slow procession
Down from the high place and the golden session
Wherein the sun was sacrificed for us.
A failing light, no longer numinous,
Now frames the long and solemn afternoons
Where butterflies regret their closed cocoons.
We reach the place unripe, and made to know
As with a sudden knowledge that we go
Away forever, all hope of return
Cut off, hearing the crackle of the burn-
ing blade behind us, and the terminal sound
Of apples dropping on the dry ground.

Beautiful Nature
How amazing can a tree be?
(or shrub, or vine or even a grass?)
Laying eyes upon these amazing, huge,
beautiful creations of by nature makes
me want to hug a tree and say thank you.

144 year old Wisteria in Japan
At 1,990 sq. meters (about half acre), this huge
wisteria is the largest of its kind in Japan.
This gorgeous giant is located at Ashikaga Flower
Park. After looking at these photos I’m ready to
book the next flight to Japan!

Wind Swept Tress of Slope New Zealand
Slope Point is the most southern point of New
Zealand’s South Island. The region is consistently
lashed with fierce winds that blow up from
Antarctica. The wind here is so intense and
relentless, that the trees are twisted, warped and
forever bent along the direction the wind blows.

Rainbow Eucalyptus, Kauai, Hawaii
Possibly one of the coolest trees on earth.
These eucalyptus trees grow along the
Hana Highway on Kauai. The tree is a huge
evergreen and can grow 8 feet a year,
reaching a height of 197 – 246 feet
(60 – 75 meters).

This family, inspired by a TED talk by graphic designer
Stefan Sagmeister, made the ultimate escape: throwing
all the baggage of civilization away and taking off to live
on a remote island north of the Arctic Circle for a year.

Beautiful African Village
In 2009, Flickr user Rita Willaert traveled to an isolated
village named Tiébélé in Burkina Faso, West Africa,
where every house is an expression of art.
One of the oldest ethnic groups in the country,
the Kassena people, reside in this village but it’s
no ordinary village. It has been the residence of
the nobility of the Kassena people, such as the
chief and the royal court, since the 15th century
when they first settled in the area.
Every house in the village is intricately embellished
with traditional earthen architecture of the isolated
Kassena culture. Some of the art carries symbolic meaning.
This village is extremely shut off from outsiders in the
interest of ensuring conservation and the integrity of
their structures, and to protect the local traditions.
Some of the most elaborately decorated houses are not
living quarters but mausoleums for the dead, laid to rest
in the same compound.
Beautiful Mural
When in Seattle come visit Wallingford,
a.k.a. Wallyhood, one of the most walkable
neighborhoods in Seattle! Visit great playgrounds,
parks, the library, historical buildings, lots of retail,
and an unreal number of restaurants….and don’t miss
this fabulous mural to boot. It’s not a Bansky but
beautiful nevertheless. Enjoy it.
Beautiful Hidden Beach
A wonderful secret cove hidden across the bay
from my old stomping grounds. Now and again
I miss this place and I start think about the
hidden gems. Just west of the Golden Gate,
Kirby Cove is a secluded, beautiful beach,
with a spectacular view of the bridge, and
far away from the hustle of the city. If you
have the opportunity to enjoy it, do.
