Tonight is dedicated to Hatties Hat. It’s mid-century charm is
like stepping into a time machine sitting humbly among the
numerous overpriced trendy restaurants in Ballard.
Classic American comfort food at its best.

As mentioned in a previous post, Cascade Neighborhood also
has some celebrated new additions along with some gems.
Sandwiched between the sleek new Amazon.com buildings
and the Cascade Park is a new building with some wonderful
sculptures reminiscent of logs. I don’t know the official
name of the sculptures but I like to call them the
Rainbow Logs.
Sugar just can’t get enough digging in. Lately she’s caught
a mole, bird and finally a squirrel after countless tries.
Poor creatures don’t stand a chance. Lately she’s been
hunting rabbits to no avail.
Back to my documentation of the disappearing act of beautiful
authentic Cascade Neighborhood as Amazon.com moves in.
Today I highlight the mid-century building across the street
from the Cascade Park and P-Patch. It’s the old
Central Supply Center for Seattle School District built in 1955.
I love the rhythm of the roof pattern, classic 1950s architecture.
I discovered this great website about South Lake Union
which is where changes are occurring almost daily.
I had a little time before a job interview today so I
stopped by the Macrina Bakery in SODO.
The door has an awesome oversize handle made
of driftwood and that wasn’t all. Inside they have
the coolest light fixture and the bathroom wall
is completely covered with pine wood. See the
posts following this one.
Not only does the Macrina Bakery have the coolest door handle
and wall covering it also has a beautiful one-of-a-kind
handmade light fixture. Love this bakery.

This is the coolest bathroom wall ever. Completely covered
with pine wood laid on end at varying lengths so that it appears
as though it’s jutting out of the wall. Awesome 3D application.
Beautiful, creative use of left pieces of wood. If you are in Seattle
check it out at the Macrina Bakery in SODO on First Avenue.
Tiffany Co. concept store. The wood siding and glass doors
are warm, beautiful, and not as fussy as the old brand.
I like it even if I can’t afford the goods.

Today was one of those all too familiar drizzly days
when I just wanted to be anywhere else but Seattle.
The remedy? A field trip to the Henry Art Gallery where
I was treated to some James Turrell and a beautiful
photographic exhibit displaying some stunning images.
